Based in Los Angeles, Walter Smiechewicz is currently with PwC’s Assurance practice overseeing Internal Audit, Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) consulting services for the financial services sector for PwC’s Western Region. Beginning at Deloitte, he has more than 20 years of internal and external auditing experience. He has spent the majority of his professional services career serving the banking sector. His past experience includes the executive positions as Chief Audit Executive and Chief Risk Officer at several financial services organizations ranging in size from $20 to $250 billion in total assets. He has been a prominent conceptual thinker & thought leader with practical results in the fields of GRC, ERM and Internal Audit. His expertise has led to numerous speaking engagements and published works in prominent industry publications including American Banker, Journal of Banking and Finance, FEI’s Magazine, ACFE’s Magazine and Directorship Magazine, among others. A CPA and Certified Risk Professional, Walter earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Cleveland State University and his Master of Divinity degree in Humanities from Columbia International University. He also received his certificate from the Executive Leadership Program at eCornell. Walter devotes his time and talents to several charitable and civic causes including the Union Rescue Mission, Girl Scouts board and Gateway Longview’s board. He and his wife Nandita reside in Los Angeles, California.
